Bill and Mary Ann in the Little House
Bill Litchfield in his element
|
Over the past 2 decades, Bill Litchfield has
built Specialty Design into one of the leading woodworking, remodeling
and home building firms in Northern Vermont.
In 2002 Specialty Design won a Gold Award from the Northern Vermont
Home Builders and Remodelers Association in the category of Renovation
under $100,000. The award was presented for his total overhaul of the “Little
House” adjacent to his home, which Litchfield
purchase in 1999 and transformed from a falling-down hovel to a
beautiful showroom for both carpentry and a thriving antiques business
run by Litchfield and his wife, Mary Ann Minardo.
In 2004 Specialty Design won two Silver Awards and a Bronze Award for
Luxury Home over $1,000,000, for Best Kitchen, and for Best Bathroom.
All of these were for the same new house constructed in Stowe.
Bill first learned woodworking as a youth at Thompson Academy. His
career path was sealed when he came under the wing of B.J. Kilstrom.
The course was called Slode which was Swedish for woodworking. His
approach was, when you build a house, you build it the right way. This
is a philosophy Bill has always tried to follow, from trade school in
Boston, to a Navy Stint chasing Russian submarines, to a career working
all over New England, cultivating a tradition of quality workmanship.
Specialty Design is located in the Northern Vermont Village of
Jeffersonville, nestled at the foot of Mount Mansfield.
